Esperamos que nunca tiene que experimentar esto, pero probablemente todos conocemos a alguien que ha lidiado con una falla en la computadora. Esto puede parecer un extremo del escenario mundial que debido a los años de trabajo que podría haberse perdido. Aquí están algunas lecciones que pueden salvarlos si esto sucede.

Recientemente tuve un cliente que la computadora murió. Ella estaba aterrada porque pensó que su disco duro entero fue dañado. Afortunadamente para ella el departamento era capaz de quitar el disco duro, permitiéndole pasar y agarrar los archivos que necesitaba para transferir a su nueva máquina. Luego llegó el punto de copiar la base de datos de MusicMaster. Desafortunadamente fue uno de los muchos archivos que habían sido aniquilados. El archivo leer 0 Kilobytes que significaba que había nada, Puf, todos se fue. Tenemos asistentes increíbles en nuestro equipo que puede hacer milagros pero cuando un archivo tiene absolutamente nada en ella no hay nada que arreglar.

Como un representante de soporte fue mi primer plan de acción para ver si por lo menos que hemos podido encontrar una copia de seguridad reciente para reemplazar a la base de datos dañada. El cliente y yo estábamos muy emocionados porque hemos podido localizarlo. Jesús salva el día otra vez!!! Bueno, al menos eso es lo que pensábamos hasta importar la base de datos y el cliente dijo que no lo era. No podía creer lo que era posible porque tenía el mismo nombre si fueras a crear un backup de la base de datos. Mencionó que técnicamente era la copia de seguridad simplemente no la versión actual de la base de datos porque esta copia de seguridad tenía todos los elementos de la estación antes de que volcó los formatos. Pues resulta que este respaldo fue creado en el 2012, lo cual no era útil en 2014. Ese apoyo era de un formato y dos directores del programa previos. Cientos de canciones desde entonces, cientos de registros, y que ni siquiera saben cuántos fueron los ajustes a la base de datos desde esa fecha de 2012.

Lección número uno: copia de seguridad. Crear una copia de seguridad por ir a herramientas y seleccione copia de seguridad. Personalmente me gusta crear uno cada vez que tengo hecho ajustes sustanciales. Conozco algunos que les gusta hacerlo diariamente o incluso semanalmente. Esta forma de pensar más a menudo es crear un back up la menor cantidad de trabajo que tendrá que aplicar a la base de datos. Si se hace semanalmente posiblemente sólo perdió un par de canciones que agregó desde su último encuentro de la música. ¿Esperar más podría girar en años de trabajo sólo como a mi cliente. Puedes leer acerca de esta característica en los blogs o la sección de ayuda de búsqueda para “Backup” que te da instrucciones detalladas para crear uno.

Bueno en este momento probablemente cruzó su mente que este cliente está sentado en una playa en algún lugar esperando su próxima oportunidad de radio. Bueno, por suerte tenía Jesús de su lado. Sabía que tenía que hacer algo. No imagino a alguien tratando de explicar esto a su jefe.

Esto nos lleva a la lección número dos: Biblioteca de sincronización. Esta es una característica diseñada para importar canciones y cambios de la canción de un sistema de software externo, así como canciones que se agrega, elimina o cambia en MusicMaster de exportación. Usando esta característica, puede importar automáticamente nuevas canciones y la canción cambia de un sistema de software externo y también exportar información sobre canciones que se agrega, elimina o cambia en MusicMaster. Sistemas de automatización de la mayoría le permiten usar esta característica y es excelente para que la biblioteca y la información de la canción en su sistema de automatización están siempre sincronizados. Usted puede leer acerca de esta característica en los blogs o la sección de ayuda de búsqueda para “Sincronizar” o “Sincronización de biblioteca externa” que te da instrucciones detalladas para configurar esta característica.

Fortunately for her they were using an automation system that allowed for Library Synchronization. Although she never had this feature setup it only took minutes for me to get the definition file needed to make this work. Once setup we were able to go to Dataset, Library, and select Synchronize. You can also hit the magical little button with the two red circular arrows located in the library.

The Library Synchronization box will appear.

Even though she never had this feature, I was still able to synchronize import her library using the information in the automation system. All of these elements were simply placed into a designated category so that she could then assign them to the appropriate one. There was still a little organizing to do with all the music but it definitely saved her or an intern a summer of data input. On an on-going basis she can now use this utility to import any new or changed elements from her automation system.

Now you may be asking yourself what about all the history how will she be able to explain this to BMI/ASCAP or even for her own reference to know what she’s played in the last two years?

Now that we had all of her music data back in her database this brings us to lesson number 3: Reconciliation. Reconcile is a utility that is used to reference the aired log of your automation system with the log MusicMaster created. The “aired” file keeps track of everything that actually played in your automation system. MusicMaster updates any changes it finds to its log so it contains the correct listing of what actually happened on the air. You can read about this feature in the blogs or search the help section for “Reconcile” or “Reconciliation” which will give you detailed instructions for setting up this feature.

This is a great feature to have for everyday use so that MusicMaster always knows what songs actually got played on air and which songs such as end of the hour fillers were dropped. Every time you don’t reconcile MusicMaster is left to assume that every single item played. Therefore songs that were scheduled as end of the hour fillers that were actually dropped might not get rescheduled or worse not play on air for quite some time.

Fortunately for her they were using an automation system that allowed for Reconciliation. This was also a feature she had never used, but again, setup only took minutes. Once setup we were able to go to Dataset, Scheduler, and select Reconcile. The following box will appear where you will be asked to choose the date or dates you would like to reconcile.

Luckily her IT department has never deleted any of the aired files since the day they installed the automation system. We were able to go back all the way to the launch of the format in 2012 and reconcile the entire play history within minutes.

You can only imagine how happy she was to have Jesus on her side that day. I must add this disclaimer that unfortunately clocks or rules could not be saved as easily due to the damaged database and the age of the back up that contained irrelevant information. However, by doing the Library Synchronization and Reconcile she had more than 0 Kilobytes of information to reference in order to rebuild her clock and rules without spending the summer doing data input.

There is no reason to risk your data to something outside your control, like a computer. Make your backups and ask us whether your automation system will allow you to synchronize your library and reconcile. This kind of disaster preparation will keep your stress level down. For my client, although things seemed very scary at first, it wasn’t the end of the world.
