Auto-Platoon: One of most under used features in MusicMaster? posted on January 14th, 2013

We don’t really keep track, but we believe that Auto-Platoon is one of the most underutilized features in MusicMaster. It is a very powerful tool for the overall rotation of your music, and we just don’t see it used often, or get many questions about how to best utilize it.

If you’re interested in the basics of Auto-Platoon, you should read Marianne Burkett’s primer on the subject. My focus is directed more towards getting you to consider all the ways you can use Auto-Platoon to maximize the potential of your library. (more…)

The Basics of MusicMaster Nexus posted on December 17th, 2012

By Drew Bennett

We get a lot of questions about MusicMaster Nexus. It seems to have a mysterious cloak around it for some but it’s actually a very simple, yet powerful application and a great companion to your MusicMaster software because it can assist in automating tasks, farming information from your database and much, much more. Plus, anyone with experience in writing software can use the Nexus API to write third party applications to use with a MusicMaster database. So, let’s run down all you need to know to get started with MusicMaster Nexus. (more…)

Rules Reality Check posted on December 3rd, 2012

By Marianne Burkett

The majority of calls I receive during any given week, tend to pertain to poor rotations or too many unscheduled positions after running the automatic scheduler.  Typically, the results are due to rules that don’t really fit the categories, coding or categories with excessively high minimum rest settings.  You may also have rules that conflict with one another.

What should you do?   Of course, you can always call me or your Music Scheduling Consultant to help shed some light on your problems, but if you’d like to roll up your sleeves… here are the steps I personally take each and every time someone calls me for help. (more…)

5.0sr5 is now Available posted on November 21st, 2012

A new service release is available for MusicMaster, 5.0sr5. If you are doing a new installation on a Win7 or Win8 machine, we would encourage you to go to our support center to download the full installer file of this version. That file will also now let you choose where to install your MusicMaster database and definition files: in the Windows shared documents folder, the Windows Current User Documents folder or the MusicMaster Application path. These additional options can be helpful to avoid data access permission errors. We’ve also included a new Hourly Summary Special History report that shows the total count and time of song elements in each hour of the report, along with other updates and revisions.

New in MusicMaster 5.0 – Printing Options posted on November 19th, 2012

By Aaron Taylor

Here are a couple of new printing design options that are now available to users in MusicMaster 5.0 that may be helpful to you.

Under DATASET-SCHEDULE-PRINT THE LOGS, you now have the option to create separate files and filenames for each day of logs you wish to print. This could be very helpful if you are generating these logs as a .pdf (get in touch with your MSC if you’d like to learn more about how this is done…) For example, perhaps you’re tasked with sending emails daily to an off-site voice tracker. You’ll want to select the check box for “Print each day as a separate print job”.

You will be prompted to create a filename for each date you wish to create a separate file for.

Another new functionality in this same area of the application is the option to save up to ten sets of hour groupings.

You can access this by clicking the “included hours” box in Schedule Print:

You have the option to save hour print groupings with a title that you specify. As shown in the example below, perhaps you’d desire to create a print grouping for paper logs to be printed for in studio usage, as well as a grouping for the hours that your talent will be voice tracking in a production studio.

As always, if you have any questions on this, or any other feature in MusicMaster please reach out to your MusicMaster Scheduling Consultant!

2fer Tuesdays posted on November 5th, 2012

by Paul Ziino

Lots of stations do a 2fer Tuesday feature or other artist double-shots. Here’s how to do this in MusicMaster.

Start by going to Dataset/Library/Keywords/Artist Keywords, click Tools/Kickoff Category Wizard and follow the prompts. Check the categories you want MusicMaster to consult when determining which artists have enough music for a 2fer. Generally this would be your entire active music library, though some stations have a large Hold category with songs that could be used for 2fers as well.
