We are happy to announce that during the past few weeks, five radio stations of Finland’s major media group nelonenmedia (a Sanoma company) all went ‘on air’ with its music scheduled by MusicMaster!
- Radio Suomipop stands for Finnish pop and rock music. It has about 880,000 listeners weekly.
- Radio Aalto is a radio station targeted at women in Finland. It has about 630,000 listeners weekly.
- Radio Rock is the leading rock radio station in Finland. It has about 700,000 listeners weekly and 64% of them are men.
- groove FM is purely Jazz, Blues and Soul.
- loop is the Hitradio for the Digital Age. Interactive. Music at high pace.
The challenging project was lead by our international distributor ON AIR in Germany, the Finnish broadcast supplier Noretron Broadcast, and the helping hands from the French/German radio solutions provider Zenon Media together with our friends from SMP in Switzerland. Thanks to all of you!
MusicMaster 5.0 SR-9 is now Available
A new service release is available. Use Check for Updates to get 5.0sr9.
Highlights include a new Special History Report called Relative Separation Analysis. This report will allow you to perform an analysis of the separation time of songs with the same value in a given field across two adjacent time periods. For instance, if you picked the field Artist, you would be able to find the plays too close to where that Artist played on the previous day. The analysis will then show the separation between values in the field you picked looking at the day you picked for the report and the previous day.
Other changes include a new button on the Help, About screen that will open your Windows Temp directory and the ability of the Library Synch function with the program to run the default synchronization option when it contains multiple definition files.
If you’re on an older version of MusicMaster, call us to discuss all the new features available with version 5 and how you can get it.

MusicMaster Celebrates its 30th Anniversary
The MusicMaster family got together at the beginning of November to celebrate our 30th Anniversary.
Special thanks to our guest speakers, Joe Bonura, Kipper McGee, and Keith Hill for thought-provoking sessions. (Right Image – Top: Joe Bonura, Middle: Kipper McGee, Bottom: Keith Hill) It was also nice to see our friends from across the sea, On-Air Digital, Swiss Media Partners and BVMedia. We did squeeze in some fun, enjoying sunsets on Sanibel Island, sea-shell hunting and relaxing pool side.
The festivities culminated in a 30th Anniversary dinner where we managed to pull off a couple more surprises: presenting Vice President Scott Wirt and President Joe Knapp with plaques commemorating their achievements.
Who was all there? Well, one night we went to an Italian restaurant for dinner. Of course it had white butcher paper and crayons. Mathieu Habegger of Swiss Media Partners made a graphic that showed all the companies, countries, people there and people missing. Here’s the recreation (not an official organogram):
We know, you want to see the group photo. We missed that opportunity, but have it on the agenda to make sure we get one the next time!
Congratulations to Mr. MusicMaster–Joe Knapp–on 30 terrific years.

This experience will be invaluable to the MusicMaster team as we enter a season of unprecedented growth and innovation.”
Vice President Knapp, who literally grew up in the MusicMaster family, says, “I’ve always been excited about MusicMaster – but really, it wasn’t until I started filming client testimonials that I realized how hard it is to find a user who isn’t excited about MusicMaster! I’m looking forward to collecting more of their stories and finding new ways to sing the praises of the software. My goal is ultimately to enhance our presence by creating new multimedia content and updating existing materials so our message will continue to stand out in this ever-evolving media landscape.”

Quick Tip: New Clock Grid for the Holidays
While it’s easy to create a new Clock Grid just for the holidays, making the clocks can be more complicated. If you’ve made clock changes since the last holiday season, any holiday clocks you have now may not represent your currently programming. You probably don’t want to change your current clocks just for the holidays, so what options do you have? Why not try cloning your active grid and making new holiday clocks. Here’s how: Go to the Assignment Grids tab and select the Grid you wish to copy. You’ll see an option to create all new clocks on this copy of the grid. Since these are copies, you can do whatever you need to do for your holiday programming without affecting your regular clocks. Oh, and don’t forget to use the Format Scheduler to assign the grid so your holiday programming will start right on time.
Recent Feature Articles From the MusicMaster Blog
New Database In Seconds
By Jesus Rodriguez
I have recently been getting many calls from clients needing to create an additional database for a number of reasons. Some have been given the task to create a database for a format like theirs for another market. A New Rock station may be shifting towards Classic Rock, CHR to AC, or vice versa. One client recently had a new automation system installed and needed to create a new database to begin implementing his new data without interrupting the one he uses everyday. Many of these scenarios have a high sense of secrecy because changes need to be made without assistants or other staff with access to the database seeing the changes occurring within it. (Read more.)

Music Master of the Month
John Olsen
National Program Director
Summit Media Corporation

“One of my favorite MusicMaster features is the Turnover Calculator in Turnover Analysis, it’s a terrific way to work out rotations based on several criteria. You can work from the number of songs in a category or from the target number of plays per hour or the target rotation. It’s quick and easy and makes a critical aspect of scheduling much easier to work on at the beginning of the clock process.”
